About Heather
My romance with buttons began as a child rummaging through old button jars. Originally from rural NSW Australia, my first experience in Fashion was designing and printing motif on cut garments pieces bound for Cue and Sportsgirl in the 70's.
I was just out of High School but was soon to be living and working in New York and later in Los Angeles.
Having worked in a number of capacities in the Fashion Industry, I found my niche in buttons. I first began making buttons during a 9 year career as a button & trim "rep" in Los Angeles in the 90's.
We were always sourcing overseas for our clients and under pressure with "lead" times so I began making "new stuff" for my clients and one thing lead to another with the launching of NO BASICS in 1994. Although
I made all different types of trims my specialty became buttons and being part of the early movement in "Art" buttons, introduced hand painted buttons that were dry cleanable, marketed Tagua (Vegetable Ivory) Buttons and began making "in house" buttons
for Garment manufactures with production orders contracted through Taiwan.
The first Designer to fully embrace the "art" buttons I marketed was Dorothy Schoelen who continued to be a loyal customer until I exited the field to return to Australia at the end of 1997.
Other valued clients included Carole Little, Anthony Morecraft (Johnny Was) and Sharon Anthony.
What have I been doing lately? Well making buttons of course! After juggling career and single parenting I took some time out to spend with my two sons Matthew and David who are now "full grown".
Always making buttons and trying new techniques, my goal is to be an alternative button source in every way and limited only by the imagination, both yours and mine.
In this button range, you will find new techniques plus SOME BASICS this time as well. They are made to delight and I hope you enjoy. I have many more designs than shown here, so just ask.
